My Martini

Using the words of Sir Kingsley Amis, “the best martini known to man is the one I make myself for myself”.

Here is how I prepare it. In my freezer I have three things: a bottle of Plymouth gin, some martini glasses and some frozen lemon peels. “When the hour strikes”, I wash some ice cubes with Noilly Prat dry vermouth, pour a generous dose of frozen gin, stir it, and fill the – still frozen – glass, garnishing with the lemon peel.

Depending on the mood, the lemon peel can be substituted by one olive, by three cocktail onions, or by a drop of orange bitters.

Cheers!
