Even if it is one of the most known bars in town, both because of its connection with the historic Michelin-starred restaurant Il Cambio and of the quality of its drinks (we’ll get there), the Bar Cavour is a miracle of Torinese understatement. No sign on the street, just an ancient door in one of the most beautiful squares of the city centre that brings you to an elegant white staircase, with no indication of what lies at the top. Only the ones who know what awaits at the end of the staircase will be admitted in this cocktail paradise. The ambience is classic and confortable but with some eclectic details (such as a skull on the bar…), the music and the service are the ones of a top-level bar, still the ambience is quite informal and very enjoyable. If you can resist the small inviting tables and their dark green cushions, have the first drink at the bar, and get a Martini: everything will be frozen (including the garnish, +1), you’ll be allowed to choose from a few gin brands that live in the -14 freezer, and the vermouth will just flavour your glass without intruding too much. The bar cocktail list is creative and builds on some classic Torino flavours, the food that you can get, both small bites or real dinner, comes from the restaurant below, so it is difficult to beat. But the real magic, beyond all this, is how such an elegant and exclusive place can have an easy going athmosphere. Drinks are a bit more expensive than an average cocktail bar but believe me, they are worth every cent, and the experience is unmissable. Classic Martini rate: 9.
