Barflies will agree that the more a town is filled with self-defined cocktail bars, the more it is difficult to get a proper drink. Following this universal law, getting a good Martini in Malta is nothing but hard. Still, after a few failed attempts on which I will not report, I found THE place in Valletta where to go for Martinis and other drinks. It is called Segreto Malta, and is placed in the middle of a very crowded and touristic alley in the city centre. Owned and run by Gianluca, a very knowledgable bartender from Italy, the Segreto is known for its Negronis (including the not-so-famous Black Negroni and a very good Smoked Negroni) but fully delivers on Martiis as well. Apart from the attention to details in all drinks and the creativity of the experience, this is a place where fine chatting about drinks and life takes over the noise around you, which at the end of the day is what defines a good bar. Classic Martini rate: 8.
