Bars, as well as life, are all about expectations, and expectations fluctuate. When I was told that the Lolita is one of the best bars in Tbilisi (actually a cocktail town, to my surprise) my expectations were high, but they went down in front of the entrance (with a security guy checking all customers, and I don’t like security guys). Then I did get in, and they got back high: the bar is actually a nice open air courtyard with great music and a nice crew, partly expats partly locals, nice drinks and foods around, and a cool atmosphere. Then the waitress came at my table, I ordered a Negroni and she reacted as she had never heard the name, so expectations very low. Then, the drink arrived, and to my surprise it was spectacular: cold, aromatic, bitter, strong. Next move: order a Martini, and despite the waitress style (no questions on gin or garnish preferences) that was also up to the expectations. So, if you happen to be in the Georgian capital and manage to escape the many wine tastings around, Lolita is your spot! Classic Martini rate: 7.
